“Streets are the one public service we all use all of the time, and these communal spaces have a huge effect on our lives. Streets that are safe and attractive places for people to live and work need to be the rule, not the exception.” (Bill Bryson – English Heritage Commissioner)
Simon Nundy believes a local authority should live up to this statement; there is a link between the quality, appearance and image of a public space and economic well-being. For the last 150 years South London has been largely forgotten when it comes to the underground system but at last there are signs that things are changing.

Mayoral hopeful Simon Nundy says, “With money as tight as it is we’re going to have to make sure we keep an eye on those plans approved and those in the pipeline to make sure there’s no slippage. Central government and TfL are sure to be looking to save money. Travel into London for commuters is a nightmare and every spare bit of capacity we can get will help make life for Lewisham residents a little bit more comfortable and also help cut traffic congestion and pollution.”
